In Helsinki in 1975, the Helsinki Final Act was signed. The provisions of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, which were mostly influanced by the United States under President Ford, became basis for many human and civil rights movements in East Germany.
Frederik H.C. Meijer, a native Netherlander, was highly involved in the set up of a Wall segment in the Ford Library. Other segments were donated to the Van Andel Museum Center and the Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids by Meijer too.
