Berlin Wall in Euskirchen, Germany

Location: Marienschule Euskirche
2 segments

On German Unity Day 2025, two segments of the Berlin Wall were inaugurated in the Naturgarten at Marienschule Euskirchen – 64 years after the Berlin Wall was erected and 36 years after its fall.

It was school principal Michael Mombaur who came up with the idea of “a Wall for freedom”: “The aim is to raise awareness among young people and to bring history to life with the goal of transforming this symbol of separation and inhumanity into a reminder to reach out and seek peaceful exchange. Right now, it seems to be of utmost importance to promote democratic values and advocate for diversity of opinion, to encourage the living and honoring of liberal virtues, and to win young people over to our democracy. The people who peacefully overcame the deadly wall in the GDR at that time are a role model for us here – together, we can achieve a lot.”
