Location: Garden of Malteser Caritas Hilfsdienst
2 segments
Hungary was the first country to open the Iron Curtain in May 1989. Thousands of East German refugees sought shelter in the German Embassy in Budapest in the summer of 1989. As more and more people crowded there and wanted to force exit permit to the West, a tent camp was built in the garden of the parish Zur heiligen Familie, supported by the Maltese. Just in the evening of September 10, the road to the west was completely free.
To commemorate this more than dramatic summer, the two Wall segments are standing in the garden. Previously, they were in the Park Tabán since 1990.
