In June 2025, the SLK Klinik in Heilbronn’s Gesundbrunnen district set up a segment of the Berlin Wall as a memorial and reminder. The clinic wrote about it in an Instagram post:
A piece of contemporary history! Since last week, a very special piece of history has been welcoming our visitors at the new main entrance of the clinic in Gesundbrunnen: an original segment of the Berlin Wall.
Why here? As early as 1962, just one year after the Wall was built, the Heilbronn municipal council sent a strong signal of solidarity with the people of East Berlin and the GDR. The newly opened large hospital was given the name ‘Gesundbrunnen’ – named after a district of the same name in East Berlin that still exists today. For decades, the Berlin Wall stood for division and isolation. By installing this segment of the wall, we are commemorating this era – and at the same time showing that the divide has been overcome!
