A panel of the Berlin Wall was unveiled in the GU-Q atrium in December 2018 as a result of an ongoing collaboration between Qatar Foundation and Qatar Museums, which brought the wall section under the Qatar-Germany 2017 Year of Culture, to be part of its robust Public Art Program. The ceremony was attended by Machaille Al Naimi, President of Community Development at Qatar Foundation, Abdulrahman Al Ishaq, Head of Public Art at Qatar Museums, and Ahmad Dallal, Dean of GU-Q.
In his opening remarks, Dean Ahmad Dallal noted the significance of the Wall for people around the world, stating: What happened in Germany divided German families, ruptured their society and affected the entire world far beyond the wall. We are honoured to be selected to display a piece of the Berlin Wall here in Doha. Michaille Al Naimi said: These pieces of art encourage critical thinking, creativity and discovery. And Abdulrahman Al Ishaq hopes, that connecting people through art and creativity will help bridge any divides. (Source: Marhaba)

We are pleased to install a piece of Berlin Wall at the Georgetown University in Qatar. The BerlinWall has became an icon that reminds us of breaking walls. We hope it will remind the future leaders graduating from Georgetown University Qatar the importance of their roles in breaking the walls of ignorance and building connections worldwide. This gift from Germany came as part of Qatar-Germanys Year of Culture. A token of friendship when Qatar endured the beginning of the blockade and a reminder to all that barriers as such don’t break spirits of unity. (Source: GU-Q/Instagram)
