Berlin Wall in Wroclaw, Poland

Location: Market Square (temp. in 1999, 2004)

about 1 dozen Segments

Wroclaw (Breslau) with its checkered German/Polish history is the fourth-largest city of Poland today and the capitol of the voivodship Lower Silesia. In the 1980s Wroclaw became the centre of Solidarnosc, a Polish trade union which resulted from a stike movement. By the leadership of Lech Walesa and with support of Pope John Paul II, Solidarnosc made a significant contribution to the political development of the late 1980s and the years of transformation.

On occasion of the 10th and 15th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall, about a dozen segments were set up temporarily on Wroclaw’s Market Square. Obviously, the segments were from Ludwik Wasecki’s collection. The pierced segments were set up permanent in 2014 in Gniezno at the Institute of European Cultur.
