Like many other companies since the 1990s, the Cementeria di Merone, located just north of Milan, was absorbed into a global building materials group. However, the acquisition of a Berlin Wall segment that stubbornly resisted change can be traced back to the managing director at the time.
The Cementeria had its own art museum, for which a Berlin Wall segment was purchased at the auction in Monte Carlo for 20,000 marks and exhibited in Merone. After the takeover by the Swiss company Holcim Ltd, the museum was initially closed. In 2023, Holcim opened the Museo del Cemento in Merone. The Berlin Wall segment is located on the company’s premises.
