During the Cold War, the Danish Langelandsfort was an important outpost of the Western Allies in the Baltic Sea. The Fort was built in 1952-1953 as a part of the Danish Sea Defence in the south of the Island Langeland. The primary task of the base was the strategic observation of the Soviet fleet. This became redundant when the Wall came down.
In 1997 Langelandsfort was converted into a Cold War museum, including one Wall segment since 2011, a gift of the Berlin Senate.
