After the Fall of the Wall, social democrats from Freckenhorst got in contact with party collegues in Templin, Brandenburg. Due to this contacts a Berlin Wall segment came to the westphalian city in 1999. Originally the memorial against the neglect of the German division was set up next to the secondary school. In 2016 it was removed close to the Petrikapelle.
