This Wall segment was acquired on an auction by a resident businessman with business relations to Germany. The segment is set up on a private estate in the countryside of Echten, a municipality in the province of Drenthe, in the northeast of the Netherlands at the border with Germany.
The graffito on the Wall segment goes back to a world-famous photo: On August 15, 1961, the then 19 year old East German border guard Hans Conrad Schumann jumped over the barbed wire from East- to West-Berlin. A photo of this scene, taken by Peter Leibing, became a symbol of the Cold War.
